Chinook Urban Mining’s first EfW project will be located on the 60-acre Sustainable Industries Park in Dagenham, East London (“SIP”). This facility will reduce landfill by processing up to 180,000 tonnes per annum of MSW and C&I waste and will generate over 20MWs of low carbon renewable electricity. That is enough energy to power over 35,000 homes and to displace waste from 180,000 homes from ending up in landfill every year.
In addition, the process ensures close to 100% of the ferrous and non-ferrous metal as well as glass will be recovered, unscathed, sanitised and ready for resale – ensuring no valuable material is lost in the process
This facility will create approximately 50 new engineering and process jobs, and bring a substantial investment to Dagenham.
Chinook Urban Mining’s EfW project will be one of the first occupiers on the SIP currently being developed by the Greater London Authority (“GLA). The London SIP forms an important part of the Mayor’s drive to make London a leading low carbon capital, and therefore the ideal launch pad for Chinook Urban Mining’s first EfW project. The London SIP is already internationally recognised as a benchmark for future developments around the world and provides a great showcase for the Chinook technology.
